Margaret Watson & Tom Gould

One chance in a million!

It may sound crazy, but we met in a kindergarten! Before my parents have decided to leave England and move to New York for career reasons, I’ve been going to a Southampton public kindergarten, and that’s where I met Tom. To be honest, I barely remember those days (which is not surprising, considering my young age). However, I do remember that there was a boy who liked me a lot, and that I was somewhat afraid of him and wanted to hang out with the girls rather then with that “weirdo”, huh! Once, when I was sitting on a swing, the boy came up to me with a ring made out of foil or something like that, and asked me to marry him! As far as I remember, I laughed at the boy and told him that he was an idiot. You know, kids can be very cruel...

Some twenty years later I realised how fed up I was with New York and decided to come back to my roots and left to London to study architecture... Long story short: one of my new friends from the university, the guy I was really attracted to, invited me to go to a pub (I was trying to teach myself to like Guinness). Turned out that we were both born in Southampton, moreover - apparently we went to the same kindergarten! Once, Tom told me a story, something he still remembered from those days: he told me how he liked one girl (by the way, he said, her name was also Margaret), how he proposed to her and how cruel she was to him. I slowly began to understand but still couldn't believe it. I said quietly: “the girl was sitting on the swing... She called you an idiot and threw a ring on the ground”. Tom opened his mouth real wide and then said slowly: “I thought your face looked familiar”. I was speechless. What a coincidence, I thought. Or maybe, not a coincidence but destiny? I mean, seriously, what are the chances of something like this to happen? The world is really a small place, after all. I said: “you know what? That girl was an idiot. I think, now it’s time to fix something” and then I kissed him! That’s how we started dating...
