The Proposal

On Americas funniest home videos when I was young I saw this awful video where this small balding, clearly in love man proposed to this beautiful blond woman on the middle of an NBA basketball court, she started to cry and ran away screaming no... He was shattered. It was then that I decided I would never say no if a man proposed in public. (I would simply break the news later as gently as possible that I couldn't follow through). Needless to say I told Nate this as soon as it looked like we may be headed in that direction.

Thus, the day approached that I had a feeling something was happening, so like all wonderfully crafty women, I riffled. And I found a receipt for a ring. I was so excited I pushed Nate to let me see it, and he did. He told me he was waiting for my birthday, and then he pulled out this beautiful chocolate diamond... fashion ring. I was crushed.

Then on Christmas Day, four days before my birthday Nate woke me up at 6:30 in the morning, long before anyone else was awake. He was dressed to the nines, with his polished shoes and red button up shirt. He whispered "T you got to get up, I need you to come down stairs for a minute." I was to groggy to notice his attire, and I trudged down the stairs in the crisp cool early morning air. When I reached the bottom the Christmas tree provided the only light, and Nate was silhouetted in front of it. He walked over to me and took my hand, and led me to the Christmas Tree. I knew right then (in my lady and the tramp pj's) what was happening. He got down on one knee, and opened a sleek black box, and asked me to marry him. For moments I said nothing, finally with my hands to my mouth holding back tears I nodded. He smiled wide, and stood up to hug me and kiss me. I said yes, so many times after that, and It snowed that very day. A white Christmas proposal.

I asked him later why he had done it so early, He told me that he wanted my answer, whatever it was, to be from the heart. He didn't want to pressure me, and I love him for that.
